Our first solar farms are going up on the edge of Adirondacks State Park, in Mooers, NY, just north of Plattsburgh.
As we drive around getting to know our new customers I have learned a bunch of fun facts:
-
Adirondacks is the first and largest state park in the USA
-
At 6.1 million acres the Adirondacks is bigger than 52 countries including Qatar, Montenegro and Lebanon as well as 5 states including New Jersey
-
The word “vacation” originated in the Adirondacks, the first place New Yorkers began to go to get away from urban sprawl
-
The Adirondack Mountains are over 1 billion years old and are growing faster than the Himalayas at 1 foot every 100 years
-
The park attracts twice as many tourists each year as the Grand Canyon
It’s fitting that my favorite restaurant in Plattsburgh is the Himalaya on Margaret St. Try the Sauteed Thenthuk, a Tibetan noodle dish with vegetables.
